Six months ago I could not order a coffee in French without switching to English. Last week I ran a forty-minute client call entirely in French and nobody offered to switch.

I had taken French classes twice before and quit both times. The difference is that here you cannot coast — in a group of six there is nowhere to hide.

I work nights. Every other course assumed I could show up at 7 p.m. on a Tuesday. I did most of A1 and A2 at 3 a.m. in a break room.

Second attempt at TEF, first time with proper preparation. The marked mocks showed me I was losing points on task relevance, not on my French. NCLC 7 across the board.

I needed TCF for citizenship and was genuinely frightened of the speaking section. Eight weeks of rehearsed pressure fixed that.

DALF C1 for a Montréal masters. The writing feedback was more detailed than anything I received at university.

Grade 7 Immersion was going badly and he had started saying he was 'bad at languages'. Four months later he is arguing with me about French film subtitles.

My daughter's oral presentation mark went from 68 to 91. Same kid, completely different confidence.

The notes after every lesson are what I value most. I always know what she worked on and what to ask her about.

Success story
One longer story: Isabelle, A1 to B2 in eleven months
Isabelle joined an A1 evening class in September with no French at all beyond a school memory of avoir and être. She took two classes a week, worked through the self-paced course on weekends, and added private lessons for the last two months before her TEF.
Eleven months later she scored NCLC 8 in speaking and NCLC 7 overall, and now works in a bilingual client-facing role downtown.
“The thing nobody tells you is that the embarrassment stops. Around month four I just stopped caring how I sounded, and that is when everything accelerated.”
- Started: absolute beginner, September
- Format: group classes + self-paced course + private prep
- Study time: about 6 hours a week
- Result: NCLC 8 speaking, NCLC 7 overall
