Private tutoring

One tutor. Your goal. Your calendar.

Private lessons are the fastest route when you have a deadline, an unusual schedule, or a specific thing you need French for — an interview, a move to Montréal, a partner’s family, a licensing exam.

Who it is for

Private lessons suit you if…

You have a hard deadline

An exam date, an interview, a relocation. We reverse-engineer the plan from the date backwards.

Your schedule is unpredictable

Shift work, travel, small children. Book week by week if that is what your life allows.

You need something specific

Medical French, legal terminology, hospitality, a wedding speech. We build the syllabus around it.

You want accent work

Dedicated pronunciation coaching with recording, playback and targeted drills.

You have plateaued

Stuck at the same B1 for two years? A diagnostic session usually finds three habits holding you there.

Group classes make you freeze

Some people simply learn better without an audience. That is a preference, not a failing.

How private lessons run

01

Free diagnostic

Thirty minutes: your level, your goal, your deadline, your obstacles. You get a written plan whether or not you continue.

02

Matched to a tutor

We pair you on goal and accent — Métropolitain or Québécois, patient or brisk, conversational or exam-focused.

03

Lessons and homework

Sixty minutes each, with a short task between. Feedback is written up after every session.

04

Reviewed every six weeks

A formal check against the plan. We adjust, or tell you that you no longer need us.

Packages and rates

All lessons are 60 minutes. Packages never expire and unused lessons are refundable at any time.

Who will be teaching you

Every tutor on the team is a certified language instructor, and most hold DELF or DALF examiner training. We hire for patience as hard as we hire for qualifications — the ability to let someone struggle productively for ten seconds instead of rescuing them instantly is rarer than a linguistics degree.

I had eleven weeks before my TEF and a full-time job. We built the plan backwards from the exam date and I hit NCLC 7 in every section.

My tutor recorded me in week one and again in week twelve and played them back to back. I actually teared up.

Being able to move a lesson at short notice without losing it is the only reason I have kept this up for two years.

Private tutoring questions

Once a week is the minimum that produces visible progress; twice a week roughly halves the time to the next CEFR level. Below once a fortnight, most of each lesson goes on recovering what faded.

Yes, across the GTA, subject to tutor availability. There is a $15 travel supplement per lesson outside the downtown core.

Reschedule free up to twelve hours before the lesson. Inside twelve hours the lesson is charged, because your tutor has held that hour. Emergencies are handled like adults.

No. Packages have no expiry date, and you can request a refund for any unused lessons at any time.

Yes — semi-private lessons for two learners at a similar level are $80 per hour total. Three is the practical maximum before it stops being private tutoring.
